The Executive Committee is the leadership body of the Concordia University Professional Employees’ Union (CUPEU). It guides union affairs, oversees finances, implements member mandates, and represents the union within and beyond Concordia.
Leads the union, chairs meetings, and represents CUPEU publicly and institutionally. Oversees internal operations, ensures bylaw compliance, and co-signs financial documents. The President is the union’s official spokesperson and sits ex officio on all committees.
Manages the union’s policies, processes, and documentation. Keeps records, archives official materials, oversees communications logistics, and ensures executive and council decisions are implemented. May supervise the Office Administrator if applicable.
Administers CUPEU’s finances, collects dues, maintains accounts, prepares budgets and reports, and ensures transparency in financial matters. Co-signs cheques with the President and oversees audits and annual statements.
Coordinates internal and external communications, ensuring members are informed of union news, updates, and initiatives. Works closely with the President to maintain transparency and engagement.
Handles member grievances related to the collective agreement or workplace policies. Investigates complaints, represents members’ concerns, and ensures fair resolution processes.
Leads bargaining preparations and coordinates all aspects of negotiating CUPEU’s collective agreement with the University. Ensures the process reflects members’ priorities and maintains alignment with the union’s mandate.
Manages all aspects of membership, from new member onboarding to departures. Ensures membership lists are accurate and that all members have access to union rights, benefits, and information.
Takes on specific initiatives or emerging issues as assigned by the President and Executive Committee, supporting strategic and operational goals.
The Union Council represents members between general meetings. It includes the Executive Committee and elected union delegates. It ensures executive accountability, develops policies, establishes committees, and represents diverse member groups.
Delegates are elected representatives who connect members with union leadership. They ensure the collective agreement is respected, communicate updates, and bring members’ concerns and feedback to the Union Council.
Composed of three elected members (non-executive), this committee reviews CUPEU’s finances, verifies adherence to decisions and policies, and reports annually to the membership on the union’s financial integrity.
The General Meeting is CUPEU’s highest decision-making body, made up of all members in good standing. It determines union policy, elects officers, approves budgets, ratifies agreements, and oversees all union business to ensure accountability and transparency.
