Here’s what the union does

1. Represents Concordia University professional employees

The Concordia Professional Employees Union (CUPEU) represents over 600 employees, including nurses, advisors, guidance counsellors, IT specialists, departmental administrators and coordinators, placement officers, chaplains, accountants and other financial specialists, and the head coaches of Concordia’s varsity teams. These, and others, make up the most diverse union at Concordia.
See the list of your representatives here.

CUPEU is affiliated with the Fédération des professionnèles (FP) and the CSN (Confédération des syndicats nationaux or Confederation of National Trade Unions).

2. Negotiates contracts

CUPEU signed its first collective agreement with Concordia University on September 15, 1998. A new agreement was signed in 2005 and in July 2009 it was extended, with some changes, to May 31, 2010.

The most recent collective agreement is valid until May 31, 2023.

3. Lobbies for Concordia University professional employees

At times there are issues that affect professional employees in general. Enhancing provisions for parental leave is but one example of how CUPEU worked to better the conditions of its professional complement.

4. Conducts general assemblies

At least once a year, CUPEU holds a General Assembly. The Annual General Assembly provides members with an opportunity to become informed about CUPEU plans, activities, spending and so on. It is also an opportunity for you to be heard and steer CUPEU’s mandate. We welcome and encourage each and every one of you to make every effort to attend this most important annual event.

5. Organize social events

Everyone wants and needs a break now and then. CUPEU organizes social events, like summer BBQs and End of Year parties, for our members. Come join us at our social events, meet your colleagues, feast and have some fun.
