A word from CUPEU President:
A number of members have been asking me for updates regarding numerous issues within the university; of particular concern were the negotiations, the pension plan and pay equity. Both pay equity and pension eventually made their way into negotiations and until now had not been resolved. On Monday morning the negotiations team will be meeting with the university to go over and sign a memorandum of agreement, MOA, that will be presented to all of you at a special general assembly on Tuesday June 13th, 2017 at the Nouvel Hotel at 17:130 (food will be available, details are attached).
“Why so tight?” you ask. The simple answer is summer and vacations. Starting on June 15th a number of both the university’s and CUPEU’s negotiating teams will be leaving for various reasons, the next time. We can all be available would be at the end of August and that generally is a busy time for all involved.
I also understand that the CUPEU barbeque is Thursday the 15th and that asking you to participate in 2 union activities in one week may be asking a lot. Believe me when I say that I would have liked to have done it differently but, unfortunately, this was the best solution
given all the factors in play. I apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you participate in both activities.
The negotiations team is currently writing documentation that will summarize the issues and, to the best of our abilities, get them to you.
