UHSC
We have been asked, in accordance with the recent legislative changes under Bill 59 (An Act to Modernize the Occupational Health and Safety Regime), to recommend a member from either CUPEU, CUSSU, CULEU or ACUMAE to a newly formed part-time position, that is a part of the newly restructured the University Health & Safety Committee (UHSC), who will act a “Workers’” representative.
Workers’ Representatives will be required to attend six scheduled meetings throughout the academic year, each lasting 2 hours. In addition, they must complete a designated training program, which will be incorporated into the regular meetings. As per the new legislative changes, all health and safety committee members will participate in the identification and analysis of risks and make recommendations to the university on how to address safety issues and ensure adherence to health and safety procedures. Your union’s Workers’ Representative will be responsible for reporting back to the union on matters discussed to ensure that the needs and concerns of your union are addressed.
In addition to the Workers’ Representative, employees will have Health and Safety Representatives on the committee. Please note that an individual cannot fulfill both roles.
If you are interested in being recommended as a potential “worker” representative, please email Shoshana at shoshana.kalfon@concordia.ca by Wednesday, October 9, 2024. If you have any questions, please feel free to email her, as well.
