Complex Calculations Affect Retroactive Pay Deadline

October 22, 2009

At CUPEU's last General Assembly, the membership approved the resolution of the clause remorque and an extension to the Collective Agreement which would provide a salary increase as of July and a retroactive payment that would be made available on or before Dec. 1, 2009.

The salary increase was implemented on time. However, due to the complexities of the process and a mutual interest in resolving outstanding grievances related to salary and retroactivity calculations, upon the recommendation of our CSN advisor it was decided to allow the University a SHORT extension to calculate said retroactivity. As a result, our retroactive salaries will now be paid out by the end of December if the original deadline cannot be met.

This decision was made to guarantee that the retroactive payments resulting from the resolution of the clause remorque and the extension of the collective agreement are based on CORRECT salary calculations for all CUPEU members and to allow the union and the university sufficient time to complete all tasks associated with resolving the grievances and paying out the retroactivity.

Nothing in the agreements settling the clause remorque and extending the CUPEU Collective Agreement has changed except for the date that the university must pay retroactivity to professional employees.
