Professional Development    Applying

Coming soon: CUPEU's Online Professional Development interface

CUPEU is working hard to move the Professional Development application process off paper and onto the web, but there's still plenty to do before we can ensure a seamless, secure experience. We will let our members know as soon as this service is ready to go. In the meantime, please follow the instructions below.

General Application Instructions

Eligibility

The CUPEU Professional Development Fund (CPDF) is available only to permanent CUPEU members in good standing. This means that you must have signed the CUPEU membership form and paid the one-time $2 fee. If you are in doubt as to your status, please contact CUPEU.

Only one (1) Professional Development request per budget year can be awarded to any CUPEU member.

No funds will be awarded retroactively. Please plan ahead.

How and when funds are approved

The CPDF Committee meets and disburses funds three (3) times per budget year (June, November, and March). The next deadline for Professional Development applications will be . The exact date will be announced about a month in advance. This will be the rounds for the 2009-2010 fiscal year and is restricted to activities and purchases that will take place on or before .

Filling out and Preparing the Application

Since the CPDF provides funding for a variety of activities, no two applications will be the same. At minimum, all applications must include the following:

All forms are now available in a single file on the Application Forms page.

Other material may be required, depending on the nature of the activity. If you are attending a conference, workshop, course, or other training, you will also need to attach a copy of the description provided by the organization. This should include the name of the organizing body, dates, location, registration fees, hotel rates, etc. If this is a conference presentation, please attach a copy of the abstract or submission as well as proof of acceptance or, at minimum, the date it is expected.

All forms must be in the order you see here, with any supporting material attached at the end. Use staples, not paper clips. Please do not attach anything such as a cover letter or explanations to the front of the document, as these will be removed and destroyed before reaching the committee.

Submitting the Application

Send six (6) copies of your application documents (package) to:

CUPEU PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND
CUPEU Office
MI-202
Concordia University

Any application package that arrives at the CUPEU office after the deadline will not be considered. If you intend to mail the application, either internally or externally, please allow sufficient time for delivery. The best way to ensure the package arrives safely and on time is to drop it off in person during office hours. If the office is closed, you may also drop it in the red CUPEU mailbox on the second floor landing of the MI Annex. Please do not slip applications under the office door, as this may trigger the alarm.

Evaluation of Applications

Only properly completed and collated applications will be considered.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not received Professional Development funding in the last three years, and then to those whose requests over the last three years add up to less than the annual limit (currently ). See the PD Committee Guidelines for more information on how the committee makes its decisions.
