The following provides basic information about the roles, responsibilities and members of various committees established by CUPEU, and external committees on which CUPEU has a seat.

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee examines CUPEU’s revenues, expenses, bank accounts and treasurer reports to audit the union’s finances. The Committee submits a report of their findings, along with their recommendations, to the Annual General Assembly held each March.

The Executive Committee, whose role it is to guide the union's affairs, consists of seven members. The Committee executes the mandate established by the general assembly on behalf of all union members and ensures that rules and regulations are respected. The Executive also accepts new members, deals with member complaints, convenes meetings and sets up and/or names people to represent the union on various committees. For a full description of the Executive Committee's roles and responsibilities, please consult the Constitution. The Committee meets every three weeks to review the status of union affairs.

Labour Relations and Grievance Committee

The Labour Relations and Grievance Committee meets with the Employee Relations office to discuss problems or potential problems in an effort to minimize future grievances. The Committee meets once every two months or as needed.


Negotiations Committee

The Negotiations Committee engages in collective bargaining with the University on behalf of CUPEU members. The Committee meets with the University as often as necessary to negotiate the collective agreement.

The Union Council (UC) assumes authority of Union operations between general meetings. The Council consists of the Executive Committee, twelve delegates who represent specific groups of CUPEU members and members representing the Union on various inter-union and university committees. While the roles and responsibilities of the Council are similar to those of the Executive Committee, the UC is also responsible for ensuring that the Executive Committee follows through on the mandates given to it by the general meeting. The Union Council meets at least three times a year.

The Professional Development Committee is composed of three CUPEU members and three University representatives. The committee meets three times a year to evaluate Professional Development applications and oversee the administration of the CUPEU Professional Development Fund.
